I have heard from other Scoutmasters lament the difficulty of holding a successful PLC. It seems that the problem remains the same. A truly “boy-led” troop comes with a level of chaos that makes any planning exercise, well, chaotic.
We are no different. This past weekend I tried to solve this chaos by “pre-planning” two months worth of meetings. I provided the dudes with partially filled out agendas and the annual calendar. Lastly I gave them the BSA approved program guides.
The results were sorta, kinda decent. Them meeting lasted one hour and the chaos was significantly limited. I have yet to go through the results and see how clearly they took notes.
In the end, its about investment. I expect that if the youth leadership is invested in the troop we can’t help but be successful.
