Yo, I’m Greg. I’ve been backpacking, hiking and climbing around the world the better part of 30 years. I’m also an Eagle Scout and a Scoutmaster of a high adventure boy scout troop in Colorado. In this time I have worn out several pairs of boots and taken many first timers into the wilderness via trail.
I’ve noticed one of the biggest impediments to hitting the trail to adventure is figuring out where to go, how to get there and knowing what to expect. This is especially true when you are charged with leading others into the woods, scoutmaster style! I’ve also found that most information on the interwebs are written without sensitivity to what “general” fitness really means. One man’s “jaunty stroll” is another man’s Himalaya. A lot of useless information when you want to head out!
The point of this site is to help you get into the wilderness by providing you the trip ideas, itineraries and map tools to get you there. Everything is structured as if the plan was to haul a gaggle of 12 year old first-timers into the sticks. Ultimately this should save you significant time and energy in putting a trip together. Oh yeah, the intention here is to put up only the best trips rather than every obscure trail in every wilderness area on earth.
Use the tag search to find a trip, read the simple description and download the files for your use. I have tried to keep the descriptions simple enough to keep the trips “adventurous” yet detailed enough to get you where you want to go.
Down to Earth Disclaimer – As we say in the scouts, “Be Prepared”. Safety is an important concern and you need to Be Prepared to take care of yourself. We’ve done our best to provide the details you need to pull off these trips but the information is certainly not all inclusive. Backpacking is an adventurous sport as could could encounter all kinds of things (weather, rocks, animals to name a few!) that could kill you. We expect that when you head into the woods, you are responsible for yourself. Be Prepared! …and your not allowed to come knocking on my door if you do something stupid and get hurt or killed… seriously.
It is my hope that this project helps gets your carcass outside! If there is a trip you think would be perfect for our site, drop us an email by clicking this LINK!
